It's been a rainy Sunday here in NYC. I'm really wishing that rain were snow, but I'm sure I'll be enjoying a good snowfall soon enough :) I have faith it'll come!
I just left a concert that was held over at the dance building. One of our accompanists (Hayk, who plays the awesome music during ballet classes! Check out previous posts for more on that!) puts them on from time to time. He and some classical musicians he knows come in and put together a short program of works from various composers. This was the first time I'd been to one of these showings, but I have to tell you I'm SO glad I did!
I really enjoy classical music. I always forget that because, I'll admit, it's not in any of my go-to playlists on my iPod, but when I do listen to it I'm ALWAYS reminded of how much I love listening to those beautiful compositions! When I was younger I spent a lot of time at my grandparents' house...Both of my parents worked in offices not in our home so Nana and Pop-pop watched me on a regular basis. I was just reminded of the years growing up with them today because as long as I can remember, classical music was always playing in their house. In the car, in Pop-pop's office upstairs, in the den while we were eating dinner...Pop-pop would sit in the living room while I practiced piano in the evenings, when the Rossbachs would come over, Peter would get out his violin and Chris would sit at the piano...Sometimes on Sunday afternoons they'd take me into D.C. to Constitution Hall to see the U.S. Army Orchestra (I think--I could be wrong...They were phenomenal though!) Between the classical compositions sounding softly throughout the house and the classic musicals I watched on a regular basis-Carousel, Meet Me in St. Louis, Oklahoma, and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers are some of my favorites to this day--I was exposed to SUCH a beautiful collection of music growing up that seems to get lost in the mix these days.
I was just reminded of all of this as I sat and listened to the musicians play this afternoon :) They were incredible and it was such a treat for us to be able to enjoy the talents of such amazing artists in such a nice, relaxed, personable environment!
Today, the timeless beauty contained in the classics makes me happy :)
